How does it work?

As a professionally-trained interviewer, Lorna Baker, will come to your home to record an informal conversation on high quality sound recording equipment. Two hours is the general length of a recording but you should allow at least three hours altogether. Comfortable chairs in a quiet room away from traffic noise are all that we require, plus a cup of tea in one of the inevitable breaks.

The recording equipment is unobtrusive and quickly forgotten. In preparation for the interview, printed questions (the Memory Prompt) will be sent to the interviewee to warm up the memories. Then Lorna will have a telephone conversation with the interviewee to complete a short questionnaire.

Many people like to talk about their life story while other people want to concentrate on one particular area. For example, you may want to talk in detail about your working life, skill in sport or a consuming pastime. The choice is yours. The recorded life story can be heard on two compact discs (CDs). For easy reference, there are track details printed on the inside covers of the CDs and a printed synopsis will detail the main points of the recording. You will also be able to choose your own personal photographs to be used on the covers. The whole package is sent to you by Special Delivery.
